Hi,
I'm enjoying reading all the posts. I'm a fly fisher and canoer, but have been thinking about a kayak.
Any thoughts on the attributes of these for fishing?
thanks!

Re: sit on top vs recreational for fishing
Mon, May 16, 2005 - 5:51 PMSit-on-tops are pretty swell for fishing. You can prop your pole in the self-baler when your hands need to do something else. Of course, however, you're going to be wet the whole time you're using a sit on top so add that into your equation.

Re: sit on top vs recreational for fishing
Mon, May 16, 2005 - 6:32 PMI would have to agree. My buddy traded in his tandem loon for a malibu two (XL). He fits himself, his wife, his 4 and 6 year-old sons, AND gear. I was amazed at how stable the craft was.
The only thing I dislike about his sit on top is the back support. The higher end seats are a must. The other thing is the limited seasonal use. A recreational boat can be used later in the fall or earlier in the spring with a skirt, but I think the payoff of stability and self bailing are worth it.
