I just relocated and would like to get back into a kayak once I have a job. In the meantime I wouldn't mind connecting with folks in my area and get the scoop on rentals/purchases/people/places.

You'll probably hear from DirkS, he's in my friends network and gave me the info I needed to get started recently. I've rented a pretty good kayak at Northwest Outdoor Center and also just purchased a Perception Sqifty 9.5 for use on a lake near me.
NWOC: www.nwoc.com/
I aim to take a class here within the next year: www.kayakacademy.com/
Also mentioned this new interest on the Seattle History tribe and a few of us have vague plans to get together and kayak.
Welcome! So you're from Iowa City, eh? We lived in Des Moines for 3 years and drove there (and occasionally Omaha, NE) to get a sushi fix... -

Re: Seattle anyone?
Thu, June 23, 2005 - 1:36 PMYes, Mr. Don is on the path. I also should tell you both that if you would like to hook up with other people there are several Kayak Clubs which have group paddles, classes and practice sessions and they are SOCIABLE. You can find them doing searches for Washington Kayak Club, and the club associated with REI etc. Or just plain talkin to the dewdes at NWOC. Where I live, it seems every day there are lots of cars driving around with Yaks on top. Sometimes, I even mount mine up there to look cool. And drive around with my life jacket and sun glasses and wave.

Thu, June 23, 2005 - 1:54 PMHere's another resource that a kayaker at work recommended. The Mountaineers offer kayaking classes that look substantial:

Can't believe that I've lived in California and here and ony now have started kayaking. Always loved the water... -
