I have been watching craigslist in Seattle off & on for a while now looking for a buy on a used kayak. I will be down there in a couple weeks and was hoping to add a boat to my adventure arsenal there. Because I only have room for one I am looking for a good ‘all around’ boat, something in the 13 to 16 ft range I think, one that will haul myself and about 100 lbs of gear if I wanted to, so a capacity of roughly 300 lbs.
I do run across a few on there but they seem to be pretty high priced, I mean for a couple hundred more bucks I could buy a new one with a warranty. Does this seem odd? or is there somewhere else I could be looking?
I don’t have a problem buying a new one, just thought for my first boat I would try to get a used (cheaper) one until I had a bit more experience and knew what I wanted.
Any tips?

Re: Looking for a new boat-
Mon, January 21, 2008 - 7:28 AMRental places usually sell some boats in the fall. You could call some different companies. Sometimes, they have seconds from the manufacturer. The gelcoat is flawed or someone ordered something custom and didn't follow through. Since it's the middle of winter and I'm sure they want to unload inventory I would shop around. -

Thanks.
